PEMANFAATAN EKSTRAKANTOSIANIN DARI BUNGA KEMBANG SEPATU (Hibiscus-rosa sinensis. L) SEBAGAI INDIKATOR UNTUK IDENTIFIKASI BORAKS

Abstrak

This study aims to determine whether kembangsepatu flowers can be used as an alternative indicator for borax identification. In this study anthocyanin extraction using maceration method, extraction results were reacted with borax, color changes reaction were observed, then absorbed into paper indicator using immersion method, after that the absorption was tested by reacting with borax using qualitative analysis techniques, the parameters observed were color change of indicator paper. The results showed that the anthocyanin extract was brownish red, after reacting with borax turn to dark brown red color. The absorption results into 3 variations of paper indicators show differences color changes on each paper, first color of each indicator paper is white, after dissipation, ordinary filter paper turn to pale pink color, whatmann filter paper No.1 turn to pink , whatmann No.42 filter paper turn to light pink. Paper indicator absorption test results with borax before reacted the paper indicator made from ordinary filter paper turns into pale purple, Whatmann No.1 filter paper turn to purple, Whatmann No.42 filter paper turn tolight purple, all three of them have a white  in the middle like a ring. From the results of the study it can be concluded that anthocyanin extract from kembang sepatu flowers can be used as an indicator for the identification of borax. The best filter paper used for absorption is ordinary filter paper because although it does not absorb much anthocyanin when it is absorbed, the results of the indicator paper show the most obvious color changes.
