Intervensi Telemedicine Dalam Menekan Angka Mortalitas Akibat Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Serangkaian evaluasi meliputi tangisan, pernafasan, dan detak jantung harus segera dilakukan untuk menentukan kondisi kritis dan kebutuhan bayi akan pertolongan keselamatan yang disebut sebagai resusitasi neonates. Karena itu, faktor yang mempengaruhi keberhasilan penerapan resusitasi neonatus kembali dipertanyakan. Neonatus yang membutuhkan resusitasi
atau perawatan lanjutan, terutama bayi dengan berat lahir sangat rendah atau bayi tidak cukup bulan, akan memiliki hasil yang lebih buruk ketika dilahirkan di fasilitas kesehatan dengan tingkat perawatan neonatal yang lebih rendah . Respiratory distress syndrome neonatus terjadi akibat kurangnya surfaktan, baik karena produksi surfaktan yang tidak memadai, atau inaktivasi surfaktan karena paru-paru neonatus yang belum matang. Pada studi ini, tenaga medis spesialis secara virtual akan mendampingi serta memandu proses resusitasi yang dilakukan oleh fasilitas kesehatan primer di lokasi yang terpencil. Penerapan telemedicine dalam skala yang luas membutuhkan penyetaraan kompetensi dari tim resusitasi dan
penggunaan teknologi tersebut sendiri. Hal ini sangat diperlukan pada rumah sakit di daerah pedesaan dikarenakan rendahnya kasus darurat neonatus sehingga resusitasi yang berisiko tinggi dan jarang dilakukan bisa diantisipasi dengan latihan bagi tenaga medis. Dokter yang telah menggunakan telemedicine juga mengatakan bahwa pertukaran informasi dengan tenaga
medis lainnya mengenai denyut jantung, warna kulit, atau kerja nafas neonatus terjadi sangat lancar pada 93% kasus .
