Abstrak

Indonesia is ranked third among 10 countries with the highest number of smokers, after China and India. Burning tobacco cigarettes not only harms the user but also the surrounding environment, called passive smokers. Various kinds of chemicals harmful to the body contained in cigarettes such as nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is one of the causes of increased red blood cells or hematocrit caused by the content of cigarettes that can interfere with the circulatory system work. To know the difference of hematocrit volume value between active and passive smokers to support the occurrence of atherosclerosis that can cause heart disease. This research uses descriptive method that is by comparing the volume of hematocrit values of active smokers and passive smokers. The sample size used was 60 people, consisting of 30 groups of active smokers, and 30 groups of passive smokers. The sampling technique uses data of purpose sampling. The data obtained are presented in table form and analyzed by using t-test at significant level É‘ = 0,05. 19 students of active smokers had high hematocrit levels from passive smokers. Analysis of research result by using T-test was found that there was significant difference p = 0.000 (p <0,05). The conclusion of this research is there is difference of hematocrit volume between active smoker and passive smoker.
