KADAR GLUKOSA DARAH SEBELUM DAN SESUDAH PEMBERIAN EKSTRAK DAUN BELIMBING WULUH DAN DAUN SIRSAK PADA PENDERITA DIABETES MELITUS
Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a disease of metabolic abnormalities characterized by increased blood glucose levels due to deficiency or decreased effectiveness of insulin. Effort to lower blood glucose has been done among others using traditional medicine from natural materials. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the extract of of wuluh starfruit leaves and soursop leaves to decrease blood glucose levels. The research used pre experimental method with Two Group Pre test-Post test design. The sample selection using Purposive Sampling method with sample size is 20 people divided into 2 groups. The independent variables in this study were the extract of wuluh starfruit leaves and soursop leaves, while the dependent variable in this study was the decrease of blood sugar level. Data retrieval in this research was done during observation before and after intervention, data analysis using independent t-test with significant level <0,05. The results showed the average blood sugar levels after the intervention the extract of wuluh starfruit leaves decreased from 245.7 mg / dl to 164.4 mg / dl. While on soursop leaf extract after intervention there was a decrease from 217,7 mg / dl to 199,1 mg / dl. The result of statistical test was the difference of blood glucose level in patients before and after giving both types of extract (p = 0.001). The extract of wuluh starfruit leaves is more effective to lower blood sugar than soursop leaves because rich saponin and flavanoid content as an antidiabetic active ingredient. Saponins work to prevent the removal of glucose in the brush border in the intestine, whereas flavanoids inhibit the alpha glycosidase enzyme that serves to break down carbohydrates. Both extracts can be used as herbal medicine for DM patients.References
