DAYA HAMBAT PERASAN DAUN KEMANGI (Ocimum bacilicum citratum forma Back) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Salmonella thypi dan Shigella dysentriae
Abstract
Basil (Ocimum basilicum forma citratum Back) has the nutritional content of essential oils to flavonoids and eugenol as the main component that acts as a natural antibiotic antimicrobial and overcome various diseases, one of which is gastroenteritis. Growth of the bacteria Salmonella thypi and Shigella dysentriae cause gastroenteritis. The purpose of this study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of antibacterial agents in basil in inhibiting the growth of bacteria Salmonella thypi and Shigella dysentriae. This study is a pure experiment using tube dilution method. Concentrations tested were made dilutions ranging from 25%, 30%, 35%, 40%, 45% and 50%. The results showed that the juice of basil leaves at a concentration of 35% could inhibit the growth of bacteria Salmonella thypi with 881 and the number of colonies at 30% concentration inhibits bacteria Shigella dysentriae with the number of 660 colonies grown on Mac Conkey media when compared to the negative control. This is due to antibacterial substances contained in basil leaves can damage the structure of the bacteria Salmonella thypi and Shigella dysentriae.
