The Kitolod leaves contain antioxidant compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, polyphenols and saponins. This study was conducted to test the inhibition the decoction of kitolod leaves (Isotoma longiflora) on the growth of Streptococcus viridans which usually leads to tooth pain and sore throat. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of antibacterial the decoction of kitolod leaves (Isotoma longiflora) on the activities of the bacterium Streptococcus viridans.
This study was a laboratory experiment using the dilution test. The sample used is the decoction of kitolod leaves (Isotoma longiflora) with a concentration of 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%. As a control contained only sterile distilled water without addition the decoction of kitolod leaves on the media of blood agar plate (BAP). The results of the decoction of kitolod leaves at a concentration of 20% -100% were able to inhibited the growth of Streptococcus viridans and at a concentration of 60% -100% increasing in diameter of inhibition zone. The results of this study proved that the decoction of kitolod leaves can inhibited the growth of Streptococcus viridans.
