Abstract

The examination of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (LED) is one of the routine blood tests are often done in a laboratory that is useful to know the height of the plasma column and to help diagnose the disease course. Setting the value of the LED can be done in two ways, namely macro and micro. The Westergren method there are two techniques that is manually and automatically. Recommendations of the International Standardization Committee of Hematology (ICSH) is an examination of LED using the macro way of the Westergren method. In the big cities, the automatic method is more popular but in the regions as well as in society health centers (Puskesmas) are still using the manual methods i.e. manually of upright for 1 hour and manually tilted 45o for 7 minutes. The purpose of study to determine effect the position of the pipette against the examination results of the LED level with the Westergren method on students of Academy of Health Analyst Delima Husada Gresik.
This study use the method of laboratory observation with samples as many 30 people that taken randomly from students of Academy of Health Analyst Delima Husada Gresik. The data analyzed using the SPSS 16.0. The results of analysis obtained that the method of LED assay of Westergren manually of upright for an hour obtained the value of mean (18.60), thus the method of LED assay of Westergren manually tilted 45o for 7 minutes obtained the value of mean (19.57), after examination by the T-test obtained the results of Sig. (0.727 > α 0.05). So that can be concluded that there was not a significant difference between the LED assay of Westergren manually of upright for an hour with the LED assay of Westergren manually tilted 45o for 7 minutes.
